Have you ever heard of Crime Spree Magazine? I hadn't either, but I'm glad we have now because it is a gem—a wonderful labor of love, an ode to all things crime and mystery related, and well worth checking out.
Run by John and Ruth Jordan, with help from Erin Mitchell, Sarah Reida, Jennifer Jordan and Elise Cooper, it features all manner of interesting articles ranging from author interviews to behind the book features, to character write ups to news and opinion pieces.
One section of note is the Featured Pets column which I mention for a couple reasons. First, it's wonderfully funny. Second it has included columns and insights from some absolutely marquee names over the years: Freida McFadden, Allison Brennan, Sara Paretsky and Karin Slaughter, just to cite a few.
Which is why it was such a thrill to be offered the chance to contribute a piece about Harry, my Australian Cattle Dog mix who lent his soul to my main character Silas Lopez's dog Bandit. Such a perfect example of life immitating art and the other way around that I could not resist profiling this crazy dog who shadows me everywhere and sits by my feet while I type every single word of the Silas Lopez Mysteries.
Crime Spree is published four times per year, but continuously updated on the web year round. I hope you enjoy Harry and Bandit's story and the rest of the magazine when you check it out.
